Partners In Sustainability

TweedCAN is joining in with 350.org to take part in a special events day on Sunday 10th October 2010.

The day is an initiative of 350.org to encourage organizations around the globe to to take part in their Global Work Party of projects that will benefit the environment & cut down on carbon emissions.

TweedCAN's contribution on the day will be to build a hip high organic garden to suit the needs of people in wheelchairs for the Tweed Valley Respite Service in Dungay. The garden will benefit people who ordinarily are unable to participate in gardening because of their disability or inaccessibility to a suitable garden plot of accessible height or indeed no garden at all.

Personal organic veggie gardens are preferable because they are healthier, they help reduce carbon emissions by cutting down the fuel needed for transport used to get the produce from grower to market, from market to shops, from shops to plate. They also reduce any need for inorganic fertilizer which harms the soil and its inhabitants.
